The board of low-carbon transportation company dynaCERT Inc. (DYA-T) has appointed COO Kevin Unrath as its next CEO to guide the company's execution and commercial deployment, succeeding Jim Payne.
Unrath, who joined Toronto-based dynaCERT in late 2024, was brought on to lead the company’s business development and global expansion. Growing the sales volume of its products and new production initiatives were among his main priorities.
“Over the past year, we’ve done the work to strengthen our foundation — from production to deployment to aligning our technology with real customer demands,” he said in a release. “Our focus is clear and we believe that we are now positioned to move decisively.”
Before dynaCERT, Unrath worked for various German vehicle companies. His experience includes over six years at MAN Truck & Bus AG and serving as head of sales and marketing for Hatz Components from January 2023 to October 2024.
Unrath brings “strong operational discipline and a deep understanding of our technology and deployment environment,” Brian Warner, a dynaCERT independent director, said. The board “fully supports” the leadership transition, he continued.
dynaCERT develops technologies that reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions from diesel engines. Its products include HydraGEN, an aftermarket unit for medium- to heavy-duty trucks that produces hydrogen and oxygen on demand. Another is HydraLytica, a platform for monitoring fuel consumption and calculating greenhouse gas emissions from HydraGEN to enable monetization of the carbon emission savings.
Unrath’s goals as CEO
As CEO, Unrath is expected to direct the company as it works to convert its field activity into measurable revenue opportunities. dynaCERT is also focused on converting its pilot deployments into commercial agreements, launching in priority regions, and maintaining “disciplined operational execution.”
Vietnam has been a major potential market, for example, with emissions regulations and demand for fuel efficiency solutions supporting use cases of its products, dynaCERT said.
The company is also deepening its presence in Mexico through a distribution partner while building direct relationships with regional operators, it added. dynaCERT is engaged in discussions with commercial counterparties in Latin America, it said, with an emphasis on expanding deployment activity and progressing toward structured agreements.
To support its commercialization, dynaCERT has secured a $2-million loan to back its operations and advancement of commercial activities.
Payne, who served as dynaCERT’s CEO for more than a decade, is to remain as its chairman.
Unrath “has played an important role in advancing our operational capabilities and commercial initiatives,” Payne said. “I look forward to supporting the company in my role as chairman as the team continues to execute on its strategy and advance our global commercial initiatives.”
